Welcome to my blog post as I share the delightful experience of celebrating little Daniel's first birthday at the charming City Park in New Orleans, Louisiana. Join me as I relive the joyous moments captured during this special occasion.

  Daniel's first birthday is not just a milestone for him but also for his family and loved ones. It marks a year of love, growth, and countless cherished memories. As we gathered at City Park, we were ready to capture the essence of this remarkable day through my lens.
Little Daniel dressed in his adorable birthday outfit and with a smile that could brighten anyone's day, Daniel stole the show effortlessly. His infectious smile and curious expressions made for the most genuine and heartwarming pictures. As we wandered through the park, we couldn't resist incorporating elements of New Orleans, especially the beignets!

Beignets are a quintessential New Orleans treat and experiencing them at Café du Monde is a special tradition for many visitors and locals alike. It's wonderful that Daniel's parents decided to incorporate this local delight into his birthday celebration. It's no surprise that beignets can get a little messy, especially for a one-year-old who is experiencing them for the first time. The powdered sugar seems to have added an extra touch of joy and playfulness to the celebration. I also must admit, he is a clean eater.  

Did Daniel enjoy his first taste of beignets? Hmmm. I’ll let you decide. 💙

Birthdays are special occasions that mark another year of growth, memories, and experiences. While every birthday is significant in its own right, there is something particularly special about milestone birthdays. These are the birthdays that signify a turning point in our lives, a time to reflect on the past and look forward to the future. 

First and foremost, milestone birthdays remind us of the passage of time. They serve as a reminder that life is constantly moving forward and that we are growing older. Whether it's turning 13, 16, 21, 30, 40, or even 50, these milestones allow us to reflect on the journey we have taken so far and the accomplishments we have achieved. It's a time to appreciate the wisdom and knowledge gained over the years and to embrace the changes that come with age.

Milestone birthdays also give us a chance to take stock of our goals, dreams, and aspirations and make any necessary adjustments or changes. Milestone birthdays can serve as a wake-up call to pursue new passions, set new goals, or even reevaluate our priorities. It's a time to ask ourselves if we are truly happy and fulfilled and if there are any changes, we need to make to live our best lives.

Celebrating milestone birthdays can also be a way to honor and appreciate ourselves. It's an opportunity to acknowledge our personal growth and achievements, and to give ourselves the recognition we deserve. Milestone birthdays are a chance to celebrate our resilience, strength, and perseverance in navigating through life's ups and downs. By taking the time to celebrate these important milestones, we are affirming our worth and valuing ourselves.

This studio session was one for the books!  The energy in the room was contagious as Amayiah radiated pure happiness. It was evident that this milestone birthday meant a lot to her. Her joy and excitement radiated throughout the room. It was clear that this Sweet 16 birthday session was not just about capturing beautiful images, but also about celebrating the amazing person that Amayiah is.

As I snapped away, Amayiah's energy and enthusiasm were contagious. She effortlessly posed for the camera, showcasing her natural beauty and radiance. The studio came alive with laughter and cheers as we captured her infectious smile in every shot.

Throughout the session, I couldn't help but be amazed by Amayiah's confidence and poise. Despite being only sixteen years old, she exuded a maturity and grace that went beyond her years. It was evident that she had a strong sense of self and was comfortable in her own skin. This confidence translated into her photographs, as she effortlessly posed with a sense of ease and grace.

Capturing Amayiah's beauty and personality was the main focus of the session, it was also a time to reflect on the incredible journey she had been on so far. Sweet 16 is a significant milestone in a young person's life, marking the transition from childhood to adolescence. It's a time of self-discovery, growth, and new beginnings. And Amayiah was ready to embrace all of it.

As we continued to capture Amayiah's essence through the lens, I couldn't help but feel inspired by her determination and zest for life. Her Sweet 16 birthday session was not just a celebration of her turning another year older, but also a testament to her bright future that lay ahead of her.

As the session came to an end, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for being able to witness and capture such a special moment in Amayiah's life. It was a reminder of the power of photography to freeze a moment in time and preserve it for years to come.

As I reflect while writing this blog post, I can't help but think about the importance of celebrating milestones like Sweet 16. These moments serve as reminders to pause, reflect, and appreciate the growth and accomplishments that have led us to where we are today.

 There's nothing quite like a sunflower field to bring a family together for a beautiful photo shoot. The bright yellow blooms with their happy faces make for the perfect backdrop for family photos that capture the warmth and joy of spending time together.

When you arrive at a sunflower field, the first thing you'll notice is the sheer size of the flowers. They can tower over you, creating a sense of awe and wonder. Photographing in a greenhouse was a first for me and my client! I'm so happy that she loved the idea and trusted the process. In the end, she loved her images! I will share some of the reasons photographing in a greenhouse was so amazing. Thanks to LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens for this beautiful location.

Greenhouses are magical places where plants thrive and grow in abundance. They are also great places to take photographs, especially if you love capturing the beauty of nature. Here are some reasons why photographing in a greenhouse can be so much fun.

The Light

Greenhouses are designed to let in as much light as possible, which means that they are perfect for photography. The natural light that filters through the glass creates a soft, diffused effect that is ideal for capturing the delicate details of plants and flowers.

The Colors

Greenhouses are bursting with color. From the vibrant greens of the leaves to the bright hues of the flowers, there is no shortage of color to capture. The colors in a greenhouse are also more intense than those found outside, thanks to the concentrated light and humidity.

The Variety

Greenhouses are home to a vast array of plants and flowers. From exotic orchids to succulents, there is no shortage of plants. You can spend lots of time exploring the different areas of a greenhouse, discovering new plants and compositions to capture.

The Atmosphere

Greenhouses have a unique atmosphere that is both peaceful and energizing. The air is humid and warm.  It's a great place to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse yourself in nature.

Some of the things I did on this shoot to capture the beautiful photos.

• Experimented with different angles and perspectives to capture unique images.
• Use a shallow depth of field to create a soft, blurred background and make my subject stand out.
• I wasn't shy from getting up close and personal to my client. I also made sure to capture the intricate details of plants and flowers.

Today I'm excited to share Jaylynn's beautiful senior session.  Meet Jaylynn! She is my bonus daughter and has graduated from high school. She will now be attending Louisiana State University majoring in Studio Arts with a concentration in Animation & Architecture!

I had the best time hanging out with her one afternoon and loved being able to slow down and catch some sweet moments of her senior year.  I know she walked away from her session feeling confident + loved + worthy because that's exactly what she is!

One of the most common questions I get from senior portrait clients is what they should wear. My answer is always to tap into their personal style, to feel comfortable in their clothing, and to not be afraid to get a little playful. Everyone’s outfit is going to be different, and that’s exactly the point. Still, if you’re looking for a bit more guidance, the following advice may help.

1.  Pair Solids with Prints

I often recommend wearing solid blocks of color since they photograph really well, but you can also incorporate some fun prints, as well. The key is to keep the prints as an accent versus the feature, and to stick with one type of print versus multiple.

2. Play Up Your Accessories

Now’s your chance to really have some fun with your style and play up your outfit with fun accessories. Think hats, belts, jewelry, and layers.

3.  Stick to the Season

This one is quite simple. Throw on cozy cardigans and knee-high boots for fall, off-the-shoulder tops and rompers for summer, coats and scarves for winter, etc.

4.  Wear Shoes that Make Sense

If we’re going to be somewhere earthy, opt for flats, boots, or something that blends into the scene. High heels generally don’t mix well with soil. Remember, the goal is to be comfortable, stylish, and still yourself.

5.  Make Sure You’re Comfortable

On that note, we’ll be sitting, standing, and posing for a couple hours, so make sure that whatever you wear you feel comfortable moving around in. This can make a huge difference in how the shoot goes and how the images turn out!

Most importantly! Make sure you have FUN and be YOU!

I'm so lucky at Perfect Images Photography to have such incredible clients who are not only, the nicest people in the world, but people who are so loyal. In fact, over the years I've noticed that a number of you naturally spread the word about PIP after your sessions by tagging me in the photos (THANK YOU!) or by sharing images that I may have shared.

After thinking about a way, I could reward you for something you’re already doing, I decided to roll out the referral program. This program is completely optional.

Here’s how it works:

1.  When you have a friend, acquaintance, or family member book, make sure they let me know that they heard about me through YOU. This is very simple! On their session form that they will fill out, there is a spot that asked, “How did you hear about PIP?” All they need to do is list your name. 

2.  They will get $25 towards their session or prints/images.

3.  After their session is completed, I will notify you that you have earned a $25 credit towards a future session with Perfect Images Photography. 

4.  Redeem your rewards within one calendar year of earning.

RULES AND CONDITIONS

• This program is only open to past and existing clients of Perfect Images Photography (PIP). This means to be eligible to receive a referral credit, you must be a client that has booked and paid for a session or have had a previous full session with PIP.
• Referred client must book/purchase a full session with PIP to receive their credit. If they book and then cancel their session, the credit will be forfeited.
• The referral credit carries no cash value and is not transferable. It can only be used towards future sessions and can only be used by the referrer.
• Cannot be used towards prior purchases or bookings.
• If by chance, multiple clients refer the same friend, the reward will go to whomever the referee mentions at the time of booking.
• Referee MUST fully pay and complete their session in order for the referrer to receive their credit towards a future session.
• Referral credits can accrue, so there is no limit as to how much credit you can earn.
• Referral credit MUST be used within one calendar year of your referral's completed session.
• This program will be terminated, and referral credits voided if PIP ceases to be in business.

So happy this senior session finally took place. We had to reschedule it once before due to a storm that came through. It rained the entire day. We were blessed with a gorgeous bright and sunny day for the reschedule! The light was simply beautiful. 

Meet Veijah! She is bubbly, sweet, and has a loving heart! Before the session started, Veijah told me that she was nervous and not sure how to pose. No worries I assured her, I would be there to help her along the way, however, once I started taking a few pictures, it was so obvious to me, she was truly a natural in front of the camera.

I always tell my clients, just be YOU! We will have fun and I will get some awesome photos to mark this special time in your life! And if posing help is needed, I’ll be there to guide you. I’m so happy with how this session turned out and the beautiful pictures I captured.

If there’s one thing for certain in life, it’s that your to-do list is never ending. From minor things — like doing the laundry, mailing that package, and getting to that doctor’s appointment — to major commitments like planning a birthday party or heading out of town for a wedding, it can all be pretty exhausting.

Amid it all, though, we argue that it’s important to take some time once every year or so for yourself, and for your loved ones, to have your pictures taken. I admit I'm pretty partial to this notion, but here are seven reasons why I think it’s a good idea. Let me know if you agree!

Things Change Really Quickly

Your baby can change dramatically in a matter of months, and this rings true as your kids get older, as well. Adults grow and change just the same.

It Presses Pause on a Period of Time

You know how when you smell a perfume or a certain food it brings you back to a moment in time? Looking at a picture does the same thing. Not just in terms of the moment itself, but in terms of that period of your life.

You’ll Love Looking Back on the Images Later

Having images that document you and your family over time is unspeakably meaningful. You, your kids, your kids’ kids, and so forth will love being able to look back at these snapshots from throughout your life.

Professional Photos Are of a Certain Quality

Candid images you take on your phone are super important (seriously — snap away and don’t stop!), but there’s nothing that compares to the high quality of professional images.

You’ll Always Have a Fun Holiday Card to Send

Cheesy as it may sound, having a fun image of your crew to slap on a Christmas, Easter, or Thanksgiving card is always nice. And you know what, loved ones enjoy seeing your face in the mail! On that note, photos also make great gifts year-round.

It’s a Reason to Get Together

I alluded to all the chaos in our worlds above, but I’ll reiterate the point. Stopping everything to get together for a couple hours — looking your best — is a great way to spend an afternoon and forget about all the other stressors in your life.

The Actual Experience Can Be Super Meaningful

I talk a lot about looking at the images and enjoying them after the fact, but the actual session is meaningful, as well. It can be a true bonding experience for couples, small families, and large groups. Some even make the commitment to do images once year just for that reason.

Hi again, everyone!

I have a hard time facing the fact that little Janelle is already a whole year old. But you know what 1-year-old birthdays mean? Cake. And smashing cakes, of course! I initially had the pleasure of photographing Janelle when she was 3 months old in a family session with her parents. Now she's turning ONE! The day of her session, it was 8am in the morning. I know I needed a cup or two of coffee to get me going but Janelle was bright-eyed and full of energy (before the cake) 🤣

7 Reasons Why You Should Finally Print Those Photos

Raise your hand if you’ve got a digital pile of pictures that are collecting virtual dust. Sure, you might dig them out of your Dropbox account or iPhone photo roll every once in a while, but you paid for those pictures and chances are they’re not getting the visual justice they deserve. OK, we’re partly kidding, but it’s kind of true! Below we’ve laid out 7 different reasons why you should finally get to printing all those digitally imprisoned images. Maybe one or two of them will compel you into action so that you can enjoy those smiles on the regular.

So we meet again, dear blog readers! The topic of discussion for today is none other than the beautiful Breyah! If the name or her beautiful face looks familiar to you, it's because I've photographed her before. I've been photographing her for 3 years now and each year she brings her A game! I was excited when I got a call from her mom saying she wanted to book another birthday session for Breyah!  I was happy to know that she enjoyed me as much as I have enjoyed them! So, the planning had begun! Text messages, phone calls and pinterest boards. Months later, the week arrives and the weather was not cooperating. It was a cold and windy 38 degrees the day of the shoot. Needless to say, we rescheduled for a studio session the next week. For this photo shoot, her mom wanted to get some shots of the birthday girl, Breyah who turned 8 years old and also wanted to include her soon to be four year old little sister. First, we did some shots of the birthday girl! She looked like a beautiful princess with her full, long length tutu, sparkly purple shoes, and princess tiara.  Breyah was absolutely gorgeous and so much fun to shoot. I hope she felt like the princess that she is! Check it out for yourself!

You've got the outfit planned…now what? There are lots to consider when getting your pictures done. While everyone has their own method of preparation, I can definitely give you some insider tips for how to prepare and make sure your senior photo shoot is a smashing success. And no worries, if you don't have your outfit planned, I'm here to help with that also!

PLAN AHEAD

Several months before your session -- two or three, give or take -- is the best time to start thinking about the big day. Start a Pinterest board. We could share ideas together. Definitely start trying on various clothing to see what you feel best in. As the day gets closer, start narrowing down your inspiration boards and ideas. That includes outfits, hair and makeup for women, and even props.

CHOOSING PROPS

Speaking of props, those are a really important part of your photo session. We'll definitely get photographs of you without props, but we want to make sure we include pictures of you with meaningful items that represent who you are.

Selecting where you have your photos taken goes along with choosing props. I have a whole list of locations to choose from and we'll talk details once you book. Let me begin by saying that I had the greatest time doing this session I'm about to post. This was the first time I've worked with he Matthew children and I enjoyed every minute of it at Afton Villa Gardens in St.Francisville. The sun was shining, the weather was warm and it was a beautiful day. The children came ready to play and have fun. They were free-spirited and their imaginations ran wild.  From oldest to youngest, we have Malachi, Jeremy, Amani and Micah! You can tell from the pictures that these kiddos are a sweet bunch. Hopefully I'll get to work with them all in the future again.

The mini session will be held in the Baton Rouge and Mandeville area. It is important that you arrive 10-15 mins prior to your scheduled session. Your session time begins at your booked time slot not when you arrive for the session.

Oh how I just adore the family I'm blogging about today. I'm lucky enough to say I've photographed these beautiful sisters when they were younger! Now, its great to have the entire family together to share in all the fun! I truly can't believe how much the children have grown and changed since I photographed them.

And, it goes without saying, Delauren & Brett have become wonderful clients over the years! It's hard to not build a relationship with awesome clients such as the Owens! Delauren, who is selfless, loves her family more than anything else and is strong. I call her the multitasking hero; without a cape! Dad and husband Brett is just as great. In his time off, he loves to build cars! Big sister Ryleigh loves helping mom with little sister and she also loves to read books. Little sister Sydney loves to swing and play!

When Delauren called me to take their photos again, I don't think I could have scheduled them fast enough. 😁 I immediately began counting down the days to our session because I couldn't wait to see the girls and how much they've grown since our last session!

And as for the day of the shoot, I had a great time! They had a pretty great time too. One of the best parts of the session was the glitter fun that Ryleigh had.

Some of you have known me for quite some time. Others are new followers or clients that I have come to know recently. So I've decided to share a few things that make me SMILE 🙂 I'm just a simple girl who loves to talk about almost anything (no politics please 😬) and loves everything about life. I've always been a lover of smiles; hence, why I love being behind the camera to capture the emotion, joy and love. 

In no particular order, I will list the things that make me smile. After looking over my list, I would love to know what makes you smile?

Do you set goals for yourself? What are your goals for the next year or 3 years from now? What about 5 or 10 years from now? What are your aspirations in life? Often times, we all start setting new goals at the beginning of the year in January and aim to reach them; however that's not always the case; lets be honest. No one said it was going to be an easy thing to do. You have to be disciplined. Goal setting is the first step of successful goal achievement. What seems to work best for me to reach my goals is to write them down! I think writing them down helps me to see them, visualize them.  From the moment you speak your goals, write them down, visualize them, and from that moment on, that goal is YOUR reality. And this my friends, is quite powerful! 

For me there was a time I had to learn the difference between saying: "I want a beach house" and "I want a 3 bedroom beach house that's on the water, high ceilings, with large windows, open floor plan and a wrap around porch. The difference is being specific. And then there's the action you must take to achieve your goal. For example, to get the beach house on the water, you're going to need to save money. So your action plan could be to save $6,000 over the next 6 months for your down payment. Because after all, a goal without a plan is just a desire. 

Benefits from writing down your goals

• Provides a vision. Once you start writing down what you want, you instantly begin to have a clear vision of it. Goals give you focus! It gives you laser focus as to what exactly to spend your time and energy on.
• Accountability. Writing down your goals helps you stay more committed toward achieving them. For me it makes me accountable. Rather than just talk, I'm obligated to act. It also lets me know if I'm on track or not, and if not them I need to take corrective measures. 
• Helps you stay motivated. Seeing your goals written down gives you more motivation to reach them. It gives you something to strive for.
• Gratitude. Being grateful for what you already have and for your experiences in life brings you a lot more to be grateful about.
• Less Stress. Believe it or not, once you write your goals down, you feel less pressure off your shoulders! (there i said it 😁)

I’m still on a high from photographing Brittany and Howard's maternity session! Brittany who was 27 weeks pregnant during this photo session with their first child looked gorgeous! We did the session in Downtown Baton Rouge where we were able to utilize tons of natural light and a gorgeous backdrop of trees. Needless to say, it was a very hot day but this mama rocked their session! From the location to the clothing to the light and beyond, every element came together to make for some incredibly beautiful images.

Before her session, Brittany was feeling pretty excited, nervous, and eager about our shoot together. Afterward she said, "the session went great".

I loved the beautiful dress, hair and makeup! FLAW-LESS! You make my job easy, Brittany and Howard, and it was an absolute pleasure to hang out with the both of you and photograph you during this sweet time of your life! I’m so excited for your little one to arrive! Can’t wait to meet Nyla Jordan!

Nyla means champion or winner.

What is a mini session?
 

Mini sessions will last about 30 minutes. Mini sessions are a good way to get a few images to print for family or  to give as gifts. They are quick, so it's important to arrive 5-10 minutes early.
 

How many people can be in the Spring Mini Session?
 

You can have up to 5 family members. The sessions are open to children and families and will be located in Downtown Baton Rouge.
 

How do I book a session?
 

Space is very limited for the Spring Mini Sessions. All sessions are booked on a first come, first serve basis. You can email me and we can set up a time. There is a $50 deposit to hold your spot and is non-refundable. In the event of rainy weather, we will reschedule your appointment.
 

Howard and Brittany chose a beautiful morning for their engagement session. I joined them at one of their engagement session locations, at Perkins Rowe, which is where their engagement took place. Becky and Will's wedding was special for many reasons.  Looking back on the photography from their wedding, the day was filled with love, laughter, family and friends.  The ceremony took place on the Carnival Elation Cruise ship on a beautiful day in New Orleans.
 

Becky was the epitome of a beautiful bride in her elegant delicately beaded top to her gown and free flowing bottom. Will looked absolutely charming in his khaki linen pants with blue suspenders and matching blue bow tie.
 

Thank you Becky and Will for letting me play a part in your special day.  I pray you enjoy a lifetime of adventures together!

Can't decide what to wear on your family session? Need help trying to decide? Below is a little guide to help you.
 

It is ok to coordinate colors, but it's best not to over match. The entire family doesn't have to match exactly. When deciding what to wear, let each person's personality show. Feel free to include the funky dress pattern :)  You also want to make sure that everyone dress in the same formality; either all casual or all dressy. Lastly, I want you to feel comfortable with what you are wearing and feel confident!

Thanksgiving was a time for me to spend my time with family and eat lots of turkey until I dropped:) It was also an opportunity for me to take some family photos & capture the festivities.  I would like to share a few of the pictures of my wonderful family. I also wanted to share some of the things that I'm most thankful for.

1.  MY FAMILY - It's simple.... I am who I am because of each of them. Their wisdom, strength, inspiration & encouragement.

2.  MY FRIENDS - Family that I get to choose:) Each friend I've made over so many years in so many setting. I would like to say "thank you for sharing & creating memories with me".

3.  MY CLIENTS - I've said this before & truly mean it. Without my clients, I would not be doing what I LOVE the most.  I love being a professional photographer & I have been so incredibly blessed with clients who have not only trusted me with their special moments, but who have returned to me time & time again. I appreciate you more than you know.

4.  MY NETWORK - Working with like-minded small business owners wanting to help one another be successful in what they love to do. I love it! I'm so thankful for the network of people I have connected with over the years & I plan to be doing more of this in the future:)

The theme was all about the 80′s. The guests were dressed up in 80s attire. They wore sock warmers, leggings, had their big chains, pagers & boom box radios. They were part of the wonderful décor.

This party took you back to the 1980s where cassette tapes & VHS tapes were a large part of who we were. There was also a Games 2 U van there for everyone to enjoy playing Nintendo games such as Mario Brothers & Pac Man!!!

Our Black Friday deal starts now (November, 25th) thru Friday, November 29th at midnight. Fee due at time of purchase.
